Today I posted a poem that
had a word, 'breast' in it
at a poetry website frequented
by the East Indians living in
the West for many darned years.
They were angry. They
protested. They demanded
I should have given
them the warning as the
word 'breast' was a little
erotic to them.
They come from the country
of Khajuraho where sculptures
in temples show menage-trois,
donkeys mounting women,
masturbating adolescents
watching the horny adults
f--king in foursome and orgies.
And yet on the Internet,
spotting the word 'breast',
they labeled the poem 'ugly'.
It hurt their tender
sentiments terribly.
What, if not false modesty?
